Group Enlists Help of Fox River’s FoxSox for Soldiers Program
(OSAGE, IA) March 18, 2011 — A group of local residents is asking for the community’s help to support our local service men and women — 600 of which will deploy from the Duluth area soon — with quality, durable socks to help them complete their mission in comfort. The group, spearheaded by Hermantown resident Tess Dandrea, connected with Fox River’s ongoing FoxSox for Soldiers Program to help provide a little more comfort to deployed soldiers through military-grade socks that stand up to the challenges of life in the field.
Community members are urged to support their local service men and women through contributions of just $10, which will purchase one pair of comfortable, long-lasting Fox River Military socks. Donations may be made at any Members Cooperative Credit Union branch in Aitkin, Cloquet, Duluth or McGregor through May 18, 2011. One hundred percent of the money raised will go toward the purchase of socks for the troops, which Fox River is providing at a discount and covering the shipping costs.
“It may only seem like just a pair of socks to us, but to a soldier deployed far from home, it’s a message that someone cares, “ said Dandrea. “This is a small way to let them know we appreciate their sacrifice.” Dandrea commented that the group is also looking for ways to involve area businesses who may want to contribute. Interested parties should contact email@example.com.
The group realized this need after hearing about life abroad from deployed service men and women and reinforced by the large number of local troops being deployed. This batch of 600 troops is part of a 2,400-soldier deployment of the First Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division, in support of Operation New Dawn. This yearlong deployment is the second largest of the Minnesota National Guard since World War II according to a release issued by the Minnesota National Guard in January. These soldiers will be stationed in Kuwait to provide base defense and perform route security operations.
“When you’re out on the battlefield, something as simple as a pair of socks can make a big difference,” said John Lessard, President of Fox River. “The socks we’ll be supplying, Fox River Maximum Style 6074 military socks, aren’t your average socks. Made with Wick Dry® technology, to move moisture away from the foot to resist the build-up that causes hot spots and blisters, and Scentry® technology, for odor resistance, will make a noticeable difference. Plus, made from 70% polypropylene, they are easy to wash and dry quickly for in the field or on the go washing. Which is important because these deployed soldiers don’t have access to laundry facilities daily or sometimes weekly. Socks that wash and dry quickly can help keep them healthy.”
Fox River’s FoxSox for Soldiers Program is designed to help defray the costs of necessities, like socks, for American families and enlisted soldiers by offering direct from manufacturing purchases and free international shipping to any FPO or APO location. Soldiers can even submit wish lists and then share their specific wish list with family and friends online at www.foxsox4soldiers.com.
Fox River Mills, maker of the famous Original Rockford Red Heel® Monkey Sock based in Osage, Iowa, originally developed the program in 2007 to help friends and families of military personnel who were deployed to Iraq. Since then, Fox River has shipped more than 8,400 pair of socks to nearly deployed soldiers as part of the program. But the need is still great. More than 3,300 men and women are still wishing for socks this holiday season with lists on foxsox4soldiers.com.
